Edward L. Dealy, for twenty years an employee of the North Western Railway Co., and long a resident of Hawarden, was found dead in his room at Huron, SD. last Friday evening. Due to the fact that life was extinct when the body was found, a coroner's inquest was held and the jury returning a verdict of death by suicide.

The remains were brought to Hawarden Sunday morning and funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church, conducted by Rev. Father J. M. Neppel. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery. Members of the American Legion post served as pall bearers and a Legion firing squad accorded military honors at the grave.

Edward L. Dealy was born on a farm between Hawarden and Hudson on March 17, 1893, so was past 41 years of age at the time of his death. When still a small child he moved with his parents to Yankton, SD where he grew to young manhood. About twenty years ago he entered the train service of the North Western Railway Company as a freight brakeman and was subsequently promoted to the position of conductor although due to the contraction of railway business most of his service with the company was spent in the capacity of brakeman. For many years he held freight runs between Hawarden and Yankton and Hawarden and Huron but last fall was transferred to a run out of Huron and has since made his headquarters there.

On Aug. 16, 1917 he was united in marriage with Miss Minnie Lind and shortly thereafter entered the army and went to France as a member of the 88th Division. Following his discharge from the army he again resumed railway work for the North Western and Mr. & Mrs. Dealy continued to make their home in Hawarden. One daughter, Mildred was born to them. Mrs. Dealy passed away at their home in Hawarden on March 11th of this year following a lingering illness. After her death Mr. Dealy continued to make a home here for his daughter until his transfer to Huron last fall, since which time Milded has made her home with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. J. O. Lind. Besides his daughter he is survived by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. D. A. Dealy of Yankton, SD; a brother, Earl Dealy of Los Angeles, CA; and two sisters, Mother Bonaventure of Sturgis, SD and Ms. Ray Strobel of Sioux Falls, all of whom were here for the funeral. Other relatives who attended the funeral include Hugh & Will Dealy and Mrs. Ethel Lynott of Sioux City.
