Maybelle was born August 12, 1906 at Hull, IA. She was the daughter of Dirjk and Bernadina (Willemsen) Oostenink. Maybelle worked at Van Wyke and Son, D. Kruelen, and John Schuurman general merchandise stories in Hull, IA before she married John Dykstra on August 6, 1933 at Sioux Falls, SD. Together they lived at Rock Valley where John had a Ford and John Deere dealership. At Rock Valley Maybelle was employed at the Rock Valley Sales Barn as a bookkeeper for 17 years. Maybelle also enjoyed flower gardening and was rewarded many blue ribbons at the Rock Valley Flower Show. She also worked part-time at the Council Oak Store, Maybelle was a member of the United Methodist Church and its UMW. John died Juno 6, 1994. Maybelle moved to the Valley Manor at Rock Valley on November 19, 1993, where she died Tuesday, February 4, 1997. Maybelle was 90 years, five months, and 22 days old.
Surviving relatives included many nieces and nephews. Maybelle was preceded in death by her husband, John; brothers, William, Henry, John, Gerrit, and Dick Oostenink; sister, Mrs. Jake (Minnie) De Boer.
