Peter Eisma
Peter Eisma, 77, of lreton died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996 at the Orange City, Iowa Municipal Hospital after a brief illness.
A funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Mon., Nov. 4 at the First Reformed Church in Ireton with the Rev, Doug Van Aartsen officiating. Buria1 was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ireton.
Mr. Eisma was born August 15, 1919 on a farm near Ireton, the son of Sipke and Jennie (Katje) Eisma. He was a farm laborer on the Art Dohert, George Snyder and Herman Hulshof farms. He was also a corn grinder for Art Bartlett. He married Bessie Sylvia Vanden Berg on April 17, 1941 at Ireton. He then served his country in WWII as a member of the 334th Army Engineers Special Service Regiment from July, 1942 to November of 1945.
Pete started working for Ekdom Brothers International Harvestor Dealership just a month after his discharge. He was still there when the dealership became Poll and Schmitz,
Pete and his brother Allen began their partnership in "Eisma Brothers Garage" in Ireton on
Dec.10, l95l and he was still going strong until a month prior to his death.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church and the American Legion Post #276, of Ireton.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie; 2 daughters and their husbands, Constance and Ronald Green of Hawarden, Julie and Jan Enslow of Des Moines; son, Dennis and his wife Jane of Hawarden; 2 brothers and their wives, Allen and Clara of Ireton. Eugene and Betty Jean of Inwood; sister, Sadie De Vries of Denver, CO; 8 grandchildren, Matt Green of Vermillion, Jennifer Schuller of Alcester, Teresa Green of Hawarden, Kelly Eisma of Sioux Falls, Krisie Eisma of Houston, TX, Katie Eisma of Hawarden, Bailey Enslow and Knute Enslow both of Des Moines; 2 great-grandchildren Derek and Ausiin Schuller.
He was preceded in death by 1 sister and 3 brothers.
