LOIS M. TAGGART
Luis Allette Taggart, 87, of Hawarden, died Thursday, October 31, 1996 at the Marian Health Center in Sioux City.
A funeral services was at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2 at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Dean Shelly officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden.
Arrangements at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Mrs. Taggart was born August 21, 1909 in Hawarden, the daughter of Charles H. and Anna (Cowen) Sedgwick. She graduated from the Hawarden high school in 1928 and from Drake University in 1930 after a two year course in primary education. She taught school in Pilot Mound, Iowa for 2 years and then in Hawarden for 4 years. She married Palmer Robert Taggart on July 23, 1934 at St. Charles, MO. Palmer died November 26. 1956.
Lois attained a BS Degree in Education from Kansas Slate College in Pittsburg, KS in 1959. She taught school in Kansas City, KS for 5 years.
She returned to Hawarden in 1960 and taught the 3rd grade for 14 years before retirement.
She was a member of the Hawarden United Methodist Church, Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Educational Sorority, Hawarden Senior Citizens and the NEA.
Survivors include a son, Thomas M. Taggart and wife Mary Ann of Columbus, OH; daughter, Nancy Allette McArthur of Prairie Village, KS; sister, Helen Akin of Hawarden; 5 grandchildren, Shawn McArthur of Oak Park, IL, Kelly McArthur of Leawood, KS, Julia Allette McArthur of Overland Park, KS, Thomas M. Taggart, Jr. and Theodore Taggart both of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Taggart and a brother, Charles H. "Bo" Sedgwick.
