John Louis Vander Sluis
October 25, 1931–June 17, 1992
John Louis Vander Sluis, 60, of Sun City, California, died Wednesday, June 17, 1992, at his home from an apparent heart attack.
Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 22, in the New Life Community Church in Artesia, California with the Dr. Kenneth Leestma officiating. Burial was in the Artesia Cemetery, Artesia, CA., Miller-Jones Mortuary, Sun City, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Vander Sluis was born October 25, 1931, near Perkins Corner, Iowa, the son of Louis and Gertrude (Vermeer) Vander Sluis. He graduated from the Canton, SD, High School. He married Anna Caroline Niemeyer at Inwood in March of 1954. John served in the U.S. Air Force four years, worked in the Ford Garage in Canton, and farmed near Inwood, IA. Before moving with his wife and family to Clifornia in 1964. During his years if California John worked for Fikse Construction, Goodyear Tires, Mark C. Bloome, operated a private pool service and most recently was employed by Discount Tires.
Mr. Vander Sluis was a member of the New Life community Church where he served as elder, taught Sunday School and the Bethel Series, and served as small group leader of various organizations.
Survivors include his wife, Caroline; his mother, Gertrude Vander Sluis of Rock Valley, IA; three sons, Ronald of Lake Forest, CA., Vernon and Darrell of Sacramento, CA; one daughter, Mrs. John (Karen) Montanye of Stanton, CA; eight grandchildren; two brothers, James and Dennis of Rock Valley, IA; and one sister, Mrs. Harold (Nelva) Ver Mulm of Rock Valley, IA.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Vander Sluis.
