Boyden - Gerrit John Bosman, 72, Boyden, died Tuesday, Aug. 17 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Services were Saturday, Aug. 21, at First Reformed Church in Boyden, with the Rev. Matthew Draffen officiating. Burial was at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.
Gerrit Bosman, son of Henry & Margaret (Brinks), was born July 9, 1932 in Boyden. He graduated from Boyden High School in 1951. He always cherished each and every one of his classmates. He married Winifred De Haan on May 28, 1953, in Newkirk. He entered the U.S. Army in December 1953 and was discharged in December 1955. After serving his country, he began farming, retiring in 1993. He drove school bus for the Boyden-Hull School District for 36 years, retiring in November 2001. He loved each and every child he drove to school. He began kidney dialysis in October 2001 in Spencer. He moved in October 2003 to Northshire Living Facilities in Spencer, where he made many friends. He was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Boyden, where he served as a deacon and elder. He also was a sound technician and sang in the men's chorus. He served on the Memorial Funeral Home Board of Directors for nine years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He had a wonderful sense of humor and brought joy and laughter wherever he went.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon and Gret Moret of Boyden; a son, Harlow and Cheri Bosman of Sheldon; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Trudy and Glen Blankers of Boyden; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John De Haan of Camanche, Frank and Johanna De Haan of Hudsonville, MI; Robert and Arvella Schuller of Orange, CA; Norm and Marge Van Ommeran of Orange City; Henry and Loretta De Haan of Orange City, and Stan and Ruth De Haan of Orange City; and his friends and second family at Northshire Living Facilities and the dialysis center in Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred Bosman; three sisters, Johanna Salmon, Beanie Vander Tuig and Margo Bruxvoort; and an infant brother, Gerrit John Bosman.
