P. A. Lawson, 89, a pioneer of Union county, died last Thursday morning in the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Algot Carlson of Big Springs, with whom he lived for the past years.
During his youth when he lived near Big Springs he untied with the Baptist church. He took an active part in the church, having taught Sunday school and was a number of the choir for years.
He served on the board of deacons many years and retired as honorary deacon.
At one time the family lived at Flashur, N. D., and while there he and his wife organized a Sunday school, holding services first in their own home and later in a rural school house.
He was born March I5, 1863, near Hallsburg, Narka, Sweden.
In the spring of 1869 his father and son Oscar came to America, the following year Mrs. Lawson
and the rest of the family, two boys and two girls, joined them at Boone, Iowa.
At the age of 7 he came to Union county with his parents,who homestended one mile west and 2 miles south of Big Springs.
They made the trip from Sioux City by ox team.
He was married to Miss Anna C. Ericson in 1889 and they located on a farm a half, mile south of Alcester. Here they raised their family of nine children and a niece, Edna Mae Ericson.
They spent four years on a ranch at Flasher, N. D. He is survived by four sons and four daughters, Harvey W. of Sedro Wooley, Wash., Hubert W. of Oakland, Calif., Mrs. Goldie Schroeder of Salem, S. D., Caleb A. of Bellingham, Wash., Mrs. Sylvia Carlson of Alcester and Mrs. Ruby Anderton and Mrs.
Pearl Brown of Inglewood, Catif., and Archie, who resides in Oregon. His wife and one son, Clifford, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Big Springs Baptist church with Rev. D. A. Miller officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
