Nephew of Mrs. J. O. Lind and L. D, Ericson Passed Away Sunday Word was received here Monday of the death of Wm. Larson of Stevensville,
Mont, a nephew of Mrs. J. O. Lind and- L. D. Ericson, who passed away Sunday. Mr. Ericson and Arthur Lind left Monday evening for Stevensville
to attend the funeral which is to be held there today.
Wm. Larson was born at Stevensville, Mont., and was about 45 years of age. His mother passed away when he was but two weeks old. Mrs. J. O.
Lind was with her sister at the time and remained at .Stevensville for about a year and a half to look after the home and cared for the baby. She then returned here bringing the baby with her and he was cared for at the home of her mother, northwest of Hawarden.
Here he grew to young manhood, attending school in Union county. When about 15 years of age he returned to Montana to be with his father. He enlisted'in the army during the World War going overseas and was very seriously wounded while in the trenches. He was struck on top of the head with shrapnel which plowed its way through one side of his head, one eye being gouged out and tearing off part-of his upper jaw. For a long time he was in a hospital in France and but little hopes were held for his recovery but (he finally recovered sufficiently so that he was able to return to America and he entered a hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where a jaw bone was grafted and a silver plate put in his head. Skin was grafted on practically his entire face. Although he recovered to some extent he was never well after his terrible experience in the war and was unable to do any great amount of work. He visited in Hawarden with his relatives two or three times after he was released from the hospital. Later he married and returned to Stevensville, Mont., his former home, where he has since resided.
Besides his uncle and aunt of Hawarden, he is survived by his wife and three children, the youngest a babe but two weeks old.
