Miss Jean Carlson of Alcester,17 years of age, was fatally injured about 5 o'clock Wednesday afternoon when the car in which she and Miss Bonnie Broline, also of Alcester were riding was struck by a North Westeren passenger train, about a mile east of Alcester.
Miss Carlson was taken in an ambulance to the Hawarden hospital, where she died about 6 o'clock. death was due to internal injuries.
Miss Broline, driver of the car, sustained cuts and bruises, but was able to return home after receiving medical care at the hospital. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Broline
At the time of the accident, the two girls were returning home from Hawarden and were driving north. Their car was struck by the westbound train that leaves Hawarden at 4:45 p.m. The auto was completely wrecked. The gasoline motor car of this train was knocked out of commission by the impact. An engine was sent out from Hawarden to take the train on to Huron, SD.
Jean Carlson, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrts. Clarence Carlson was born on a farm near Alcester, where she lived her entire life. She was a graduate of the Alcester High School and was making plans to attend South Dakota State college at Brooking, as also Miss Broline. Beside her parents, Miss Carlson is survived by two brothers and two sisters, Robert and Rodney and Ruth and Beth. She was a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Sedgwick of Hawarden.
