Bernice Carpenter.77,of Hawarden died October 19, 1977,at Marian Health Center in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 23,at the First Baptist Church in Hawarden. Burial will be at Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden. Rev. Andy Chako will be officiating. Visitation was Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service at Potter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Bernice was born January 23, 1920 near Ireton, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Besse(Taylor) Richmond.Her family moved to Deepwater, MI., in 1924 and to Union County, SD., near Hawarden, Iowa. In 1937 Bernice graduated from Hawarden High School in 1938. She married Glenn Carpenter February 17, 1940 on the A,B. Carpenter homestead near Big Springs, SD. They lived in the Hawarden area where Bernice worked at Otis Radio Shop for 25 yerars. She was also very active in the First Baptist Church at Hawarden including being Sunday School teacher for 20 years and a member of the Missions Society.

Surviving relatives include her husband, Glenn; two sons and their wives, Eugene and Delores of Wellman, and Leland and Ranae of Fort Pierce, FL., two daughters, Leota and her husband Larry Knight of North Berd, NE., and Peggy Johnson and her special friend Don McCabe both of Sioux City; a brother and his wife Raymond and Larue Richmond of Salt Lake, UT; a sister, Mary Hyler of Salt Lake City,Ut., sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert Richmond and a sister Stella Richmond in infancy.
