Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the First Reformed church of Orange City for Jake De Haan,63, who passed away Saturday at his home from a heart spasm. The deceased had been hospitalized for two months following a heart attack in October,but recently had been apparently well. Rev. Henry Colenbrander officiated at the service and interment was made in the Orange City cemetery under the direction of Van Ettens.
Mr. Der Haan was born September 23, 1895, on a farm near Orange City. In 1924 he was married to Hattie Reekers and two children were born to them; Alwin of Sioux City and Mrs. Albert (Marlys) Gerritsen of Spencer. In 1951 he married Mable Ver Steeg, who now survives. For the past several years, Mr. De Haan worked with a county gravel crew and had just resumed his work a few days prior to his death.
Surviving beside the widow and two children are three sisters, Mrs.John L Mouw and Mrs. Clarence Balkema of Orange City and Mrs. Henry De Wolf of Phoenis, Ariz. and three brothers, Henry and Herman of Orange City and Vernon of Sioux Falls.
