From the Hawarden Independent of March 15, 1928.

Death of Former Resident
The current issue of the Midland Schools contained a notice of the death of J. L. Mishler, which occurred at his home in Pearl City, IL., Dec. 28th, from heart failure. He was 67 years of age. Mr. and Mrs. Mishler lived in
Hawarden in the early nineties, for a year or two, during which time Mr. Mishler was principal of the Hawarden schools. They went from here to
Ireton where he served in a similar capacity for a year or more. He was in school work for thirty years, serving as superintendent at Estherville,
Reinbeck and other Iowa points. He was married in 1890 at Carthage, IL., to Miss Mathilda Hatch. They had three children, Mrs. Roy Seibert of Chicago, Miss Helen Mishler, now teaching in the Community high school at Lambert, Mont., and Carl, who made the supreme sacrifice during
the World war. After leaving Iowa Mr. Mishler had farmed near Pearl City, IL., for two years, served for ten years as postmaster at that place and since then had been justice of the peace there.
