Death of Former Union County Man
Dr. Theodore J. Malmgren, who was born on a farm south of Big Springs where he grew to young manhood, passed away at his home at Phoenix,
Ore., April 3rd. The following article appeared in the Mail-Tribune of Medford,Ore.: Theodore John Malmgren, beloved by all who knew him and one of the few remaining typical country physicians, died at his home in Phoenix,Ore., Wednesday morning (April 3) at 5:30 o'clock, following a heart attack which had begun shortly after midnight.
Together with Mrs. Malmgren,he attended a church supper in Phcenix and was in his usual good spirits.
Upon his return to his home he was called to the bedside of a patient, which kept him busy until midnight.
It was not long after his return to his home that the heart attack came upon him and he passed away at 5:30 o'clock.
He was born in Union county, S.D., October 24, 1871, and at the time of his death was aged 57 years, 5 months and 9 days. He was a graduate of the University of South Dakota at Vermillion,
where he attained his Bachelor of Science degrees. In 1907 he graduated from the medical school of the Iowa
State University. On December 22, 1909, he was married to Fredericka Barbara Hann at Bedford, and on June 1, 1909; he started the practice of his profession at Phoenix, which has been his home for the past twenty years,endearing him to a wide circle of friends. He was a member of the Jackson County Medical association, Southern
Oregon Medical association, American Medical association, Oregon State Medical association, Phoenix Camp, W. 0. W.; M. W. A.; Weatonka Tribe
No. 1, Improved Order of Red Men. He leaves a devoted wife, Fredericka Barbara, an adopted daughter, Marie Malmgren; one brother, Henry Malmgren,and one sister, Miss Christine Malmgren, of Oakland, Cal.
"Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian church in Pheonix, Saturday at 2:30 p. m. Interment in Phoenix cemetery."
