Robert W. Minten, 80, of Alton, died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 7,2001, at Mesa,
Ariz.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Rev. James Tigges officiated. Burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery, Alton. Graveside military rites were conducted by Floyd Post 200 American Legion. Arrangements were made by
the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.
Robert was born Dec. 11,1920, at Alton, the son of William and Clara (Reith) Minten. He was raised in the Alton area and received his education at St. Mary's Academy in Alton, graduating in 1938. He then attended Creighton University at Omaha, Neb. for a year. On Nov. 28,1940, he married Jackie Den Hartog at Sioux City. They made their home in Alton where he was employed at John Reeff's Conoco gas station in Alton, he entered the U.S. Army May 14,1945, serving during WW II in the European Theater, being discharged July 23,1946. He then returned to Alton where he was a Rawleigh salesman in the Alton area and later was employed at Silent Sioux in Orange City. In 1948 the they moved to rural Alton to farm and moved into Alton in 1972. He continued farming for several years and was then a rural mail carrier in the Alton area until his retirement.
Mr. Minten was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Floyd Post 200 American Legion and Iowa Rural Letter Carriers Assoc. Bob umpired Little League in Alton for several years and then was coach for the Alton Cardinals, the town baseball team, for 17 years beginning in 1974. He was a past president of the Northwest Iowa League.
Survivors include his wife Jackie of Alton; two sons, Darrell and his wife Marilyn of Reno, Nev. and Ronald of Alton; five daughters, Sherron and her husband Richard Kriege of Skiatook, Okla., Bev and her husband Larry Hanno of Le Mars, Marilyn Nunn of Alton, Barb and her husband Mark Noteboom of Orange City, Dawn and Dave Welch of Atlanta, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; three sisters, Theresa Pick,
Bernice and her husband LeRoy Treinen, all of Remsen, and Julie and her husband Clarence Langel of Alton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Minten; a twin brother, Norbert in infancy; and sisters, Eleanor Ruppert and Malinda Duits.
