Herman Tony DeHaas, of Spring, Texas, formely of Hawarden, died Sept.23, 2001. Funeral service was Sept. 28 at Klein Funeral Home with interment at Klein Memorial Park.

Tony DeHaas was born in Harrison, Kan., to Herman and Golda DeHaas. He was raised in Hawardewn and graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1963 with a degree in Journalism. He served as a information officer in the U.S. Air Force. On July 17,1965 he married Coleene Engle of Great Falls, Mont. He was employed in public relations with such firms as Newport Newa Shipbuilding, Reynolds Metals, Dayco Corp, Fromm Inc., Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc., and most recently his own firm, DeHaas Associates. He was actively involved in community activities in the Houston area, including the Leukemia Society of America USO, Volunteers of America and others.

Survivors include his wife, Coleene; son Kyle and Kourt; and a sister Ann Schemmer.
