Edward de Haas.86, Rock Valley, died Sunday, Feb. 8, at Valley Manor in Rock Valley.Services were Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley. Burial was at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley, under the direction of Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
Ed de Haas, son of Tony and Hendrika(Toering) de Haas, was born April 3, 1917, in Orange City. His family moved to Rock Rapids, then moved when he was 5 to Arkansas. He was a junior in high school when the family returned to Orange City. He married Margaret Hilton on Sept. 5, 1942, in South Sioux City, NE., He entered the U.S. Army in January 1943. After his discharged, he and his wife traveled the Midwest while he worked construct on government projects. They moved in 1946 to Rock Valley where he did carpentry for residential and commercial construction. He was a member of Pioneer United Methodist Church in Rock Valley. He thoroughly enjoyed carpentry.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret de Haas of Rock Valley, a daughter, Nora and Vernon Strasser of Wichita, KS.,a brother, Newman and Betty deHaas of Silver Spring, MD., and a sister, Griselda Jacob of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and wives, Frank and Kate de Haas and Herman and Golda de Haas; and a brother-in-law Chris Jacobs.
