Mrs. Wm. M. Miller passed away in California Tuesday Afternoon.
Mrs. W.M. Miller of Long Beach CA., a pioneer resident of Garfield township and former Hawarden resident, passed away Tuesday afternoon, following a stroke which she suffered that morning. Mrs. Miller had been suffering from high blood pressure for a number of years and while her death was unexpected, she had been advised by physicians that her condition was such that she must take the utmost care of herself. Mr. and Mrs. Miller had gone up into the mountains on Sunday in hopes that Mr. Miller might get some relief as he is a sufferer from asthma. She suffered a stroke Monday morning and her daughters, Mrs. Percy Watt and Mrs. M. J. Vernon, of Long Beach, were summoned and were at her beside when death claimed her.
Funeral services will be held in Long Beach this afternoon and burial will be in that city.
Sarah A. Rollings was born in England Oct 12, 1864, and so was past 74 years of age at the time of her death. She came to America with her parents when about two years of age, locating in the state of New York. After living in the east for a number of years the Rollings family came to this section of the country, locating on a farm east of Hudson in Garfield township. She was united in marriage with William M. Miller at Eden, now Hudson, Dec 31, 1882. She and her husband occupied her parents farm which later became their own. Seven children were born to this union, two of home passed away in infancy. The children who survive her are Clarence J. Miller Hawarden, Albert M. Miller, Mrs. M. J. Vernon and Mrs. Percy Watt of Long Beach CA, and Mrs. Earl Smith of Hawarden. She also leaves three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Mary Isenberger of Sheldon; Mrs. Emma Waldorf of Vinton; Mrs. Kate Okey of CA, and William and Ted Rollings of Hudson.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller retired from farming and moved to Hawarden aobut 1912 and they resided here until about 1928 when they moved to Long Beach CA, where they have since continuously resided. They have made trips here since moving to CA and the last time they visited here was five or six years ago. They had made pands to visit Hawarden this coming summer.
