Jerry L. Draayer, 55, of Le Mars, and a Hawarden native, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at the Abbey of Le Mars.
Jerry Lee Draayer, son of Orville "Corky" and Donna (Strong)Draayer, was born on Sept. 29, 1955, in Hawarden.
He grew up in Hawarden and received his education in West Sioux Community Schools.
Jerry worked for several employers over the years. He worked doing railroad-track destruction, was a laborer for Waterman Construction, Dohrman Construction, Di Construction, welder at Hawarden Machine, pipe builder for Winnebago,
laborer in Packing House in Hawarden and Newspaper Company in Sioux Falls, S.D., and tender for Draayer construction
Jerry enjoyed riding motorcycles and going to Sturgis, S.D., to the cycle rallies. He was a good hunter and fisherman He enjoyed swimming in the sandpit with his dogs and playing the guitar and singing. He always had a kind heart and lended a helping hand toothers in need and will be greatly missed.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children Lenny (Catherine) Schutt of Algona and Jonna (Keith) Sprague of Alcester, S.D.; siblings David Draayer of Lowell, Ark., Cindy (Gary) Cernohous of Ihlen, Minn., Melissa Dc Jager of Alton and Stacy (Jena) Draayer of Box Elder, S.D.; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews; uncles and aunts Jon (Vicki) Strong of Hawarden, Betsy Anderson of Hawarden, Sonny (Betty) Strong of Hawarden and Helen (Ray) Weyen of Sioux Center; companion of 26 years l4enrietta Joyce Attema; and "Babe" the dog.
Jeny was preceded in death by his parents Orville "Corky" and Donna (Strong) Draayer and nephew Jordan Merrick.
