Pioneer Gerrit Rozenboom passes to Great Beyond.
Gerrit Rozenboom, who all old timers in the county will remember, died at Fort Dodge this week, his remains were interred at the Orange City Cemetery Wednesday Oct 3rd. In the early 1880's G. Rozenboom was the most prominent business man in Sioux County and did the largest farm machinery and grain business in the county, and one of the largest retail businesses in the state. At that time he was living at Orange Ciy. He spread out his business too far for his capital, and the result was his failure along about 1886. Afterwards with the help of his friends he was able to resume business but never in so extensive a way. After a few years he moved to Alton whre he conducted a small machine and black smith shop. Since the death of his wife a few yars ago he has lived with his children at different places.
(Gerrit's parents were not found, but in Aartje Tott's obit it mentions she was the mother of Gerrit Rozenboom. Aartje Rozenboom Tott was born in the Netherlands abt. 1826 and son Gerrit Rozemboom born in 1850. No marriage of Aartje could be found. She married George Tott 1821-1883 born in Germany and their Tott children were born in Germany.
Gerrit Rozenboom was married to Willempje Vellings 1848-1907 They had children - Jetsje 1873, Elizaberh 1875, Garrett 1877, Edward 1878, willem 1880, Garriet 1881 Aartje 1882, and Gerrretje 1888.)
