Mrs. Edward Stene, 77, of Alcester, died Dec. 3 at a Hawarden, Iowa hospital of a sudden illness.

Services were at 1:30 P.M., Dec. 5 by Nathanael Lutheran Church with Pastor George Matzenthin officiating. Burial was in Nora Cemetery near Alcester with the Wass Funeral Home.

Mrs. Stene the former Sophie Buum, was born Dec. 18, 1897, in Union County and attended Union County schools. She was married Feb. 2, 1917. The couple farmed in the Alcester aea several years, and moved to Akron, Iowa. They lived at Akron until Mr. Stene's retirement in 1973, when they moved to Alcester. He died July 7, 1975.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Don (Eleanor) Harvey of Alcester; Mrs. Elwood (Lois) Winquist of Akron and Mrs. Robert (Betty Lou) Hair of Sioux City; a sister, Mrs. Silas Hendrichson of Portland, Ore.; 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
