Eilert Borchers, a well known farmer residing eight miles southeast of Ireton, just across the Plymouth county line, was fatally injured Sunday by being kicked in the stomach by a horse and died a few hours after the accident happened. His death was due to internal injuries. He came into the house after being kicked and a short time after lapsed into unconsciousness and never regained his mental faculties. He did not relate just how the accident occurred. He was 77 years of age. He was born in Germany but came to the United States in 1870, and worked for a while in Pennsylvania, later coming to Illinois. He then came to Jones County, Iowa, where he was united in marriage with Miss Catherine Popken. They came to Plymouth County in 1873 and bought a quarter section of land for which they paid $6.00 per acre and which he still retained at the time of his death. His wife died eleven years ago. They had no children. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Grant Township Lutheran church. His brother, Dietrick Borchers, is expected from Oklahoma to attend the funeral.
