CYRENE DE BOOY
Cyrene De Booy was born nn Pella, Ia. on Feb. 25, 1864. He came to Sioux County at the age of 18 and lived here ever since. He worked on the farm for a year, then he assisted as clerk in the Fred Slobe store. In 1888 he went into the hard ware business with Harry Marvin and has been a merchant for a great number of years. On October 3, 1889 he was united in marriage to Miss Teuntie Muilenburg. To this union six children were born, 3 sons and 3 daughters.
He served the town as Justice of the Peace for eleven years. He also served on the Town Council for many years. Mr. De Booy was a member of the American Ref. church, but was unable to attend these services faithfully the last 5 years due to his ailment.
Surviving him are the widow, and the 6 children, namely: Dr. Matthew De Booy of Los Angeles, Calif.; Hubert of Magnolia, Minn.; Margaret of Aurora, Ill.; Marion of Storm Lake; Clazena, Mrs. A. 0. Voogd of Rock Rapids and Miss Mildred, instructor at Central High, Sioux City and 6 grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Matthew of Sioux City and 3 sisters, Mrs. C. Van Deelen of Alton, Mrs. Mary Druger of Sioux City and Josephine Van Gorkurn of Geddes, So. Dak.
Funeral services were held at the American Ref. church Saturday afternoon, April 4 with Rev. L. Nattress officiating. Interment was made in the local cemetery.
The sisters were unable to attend on account of illness.
Mrs. De Booy will make her home with her children Supt. and Mrs. A. 0. Voogd at Rock Rapids for the present time. Her son Dr. Matthew returned to his home in California Wednesday.
