BORN: May 4, 1916, Archer, Iowa
PASSED AWAY: March 9, 1993, Sheldon, Iowa
AGE: 76 years, 10 months, 5 days
FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, March 12, 1993 at 10:30A.M., Bethel Reformed Church, Sheldon, Iowa
CLERGYMAN: The Rev. Kenneth Tenckinck
INTERMENT: East Lawn Cemetery, Sheldon, Iowa

Gertrude was the daughter of Adrian and Alice (Van Dam) De Boom. She graduated from the Hartley High School and then taught country school.
On June 1, 1938, she married Maurice Scholten at Hartley. They lived at Lake Wilson and Chandler, Minnesota, until 1942, when they moved to Sheldon. Mrs. Scholten held various jobs, including bookkeeper for Verschoor Motors and Anderson Machine Shop. Mr. Scholten passed away December 21, 1973, at Sheldon. On June 17, 1980, she married John De Boom in Texas. They made their home in Orange City. Mr. De Boom passed away January 9, 1985, at Orange City. Mrs. De Boom then returned to Sheldon where, in 1990, she became a resident of the Christian Retirement home.
She was a charter member of the Bethel Reformed Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years and had been active in the ladies organizations.
Survivors include her two sons, Merwyn "Mert" Scholten, of Elgin, Illinois; and Marlowe Scholten, of Lake Villa, Illinois; four grandchildren; four step-sons, Clifford De Boom, of Lynden, Washington; Richard De Boom, of Hawarden; Robert De Boom, of Lake Jackson, Texas; and Gerrit De Boom, of Janesville, Minnesota; three step-daughters, Christene Van Houten, of Orlando, Florida; Betty Schut, of Sioux Center; and Esther Altena, of Maurice; twenty-one step-grandchildren; thirty-four step-great~grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Miller, of Phoenix, Arizona; and Nellie Elgersma, of Sanhorn; and three brothers, William De Boom, of Sanhorn; Fred De Boom, of Hartley; and Anthony "Fritz" De Boom, of California.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
