Joe Horstman, 95, of Sioux Center, IA., died Friday
December 20, 1996 at the Sioux Center Community Health Center.
He was born to Gerrit & Eva Dina (Denekamp) Horstman on November 13, 1901 in Deventer, The Netherlands. On February 17, 1926 he married Reka Hulstein in Sioux Center. The couple farmed near Sioux Center, Carmel and Orange City. After he retired from farming in 1964, they moved to Sioux Center where Joe worked at Hoogland Plumbing for a few years. He w as a member of the First Reformed Church of Sioux Center. He had served as a deacon at the Cannel Reformed Church in Carmel, then an elder at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. Mrs. Horstman died in 1985. Joe lived in the New Homested in Sioux Center before moving to the Nursing Wing in 1996.
Survivors include; two sons and their wives: Gerrit & Ruth and William & Gertrude all of Sioux Center; one daughter and her husband: Evelyn Shirley & Leon Koche of Sheldon; 13 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister:
Gertrude Jensen of McCook, NE: and sister-in-law: Mrs. Gerrit E. Horstman of Sanborn, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers (John, Everett, & Gerrit, two sisters (Grace & Anna), five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
