ELSIE CARLSON FUNERAL HELD LAST WEEK
Mrs. Elsie Carlson, long time resident of Hawarden, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep early Thursday morning of last week [Nov. 27]. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, at the Dow Funeral Home with Mr. Helmuth Willert of Sheldon officiating. Miss June Willert and Miss Dorothy Willert sang "Jehovah is My God" and "Waiting for Jehovah" accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Helmuth Willert. Casketbearers were Lester Janssen, Wilbert Cain, Sr., Milo McPherson, Ralph Millard and Harold Hout. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Carlson was born May 22, 1887, on a farm in Union County, South Dakota, about five miles west of Hawarden. On February 27, 1907, she was united in marriage with Swan August Carlson in Sioux City. They resided on a farm in Union County for six years and then moved to Hawarden where Mr. Carlson was engaged in the carpenter trade. She had lived in the same neighborhood for 56 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Esther) Finch of Omaha, Nebraska, and Mrs. Glenn (Ella) Rounds of Hawarden; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. John Carlson of Hawarden.

MRS. SWAN AUGUST CARLSON
Funeral services were held at the Dow Funeral home in Hawarden November 29 for Mrs. Swan August Carlson, 82, of Hawarden, who died November 27 at her home in Hawarden. Funeral services were conducted by Helmuth Willert and burial was made in Grace Hill cemetery at Hawarden.
The former Elsie Mae Nelson was born May 22, 1887, in Union County, South Dakota. She was married February 27, 1907, at Sioux City, and lived in the Hawarden area all her life. Her husband preceded her in death August 27, 1953.
