S. A. CARLSON DIES AT AGE 84

S. A. Carlson, 84, a resident of Hawarden 40 years, died last Thursday [Aug. 27] in the Panska Nursing home following a stroke. Mr. Carlson suffered a stroke July 1 and for a time was a patient in the Hawarden hospital.

He followed the trade of a carpenter and many residences in Hawarden were built by him. He was born May 2, 1869, in Sweden, and came to America at the age of 21. He first located at Akron and later came to Hawarden. He was married to Miss Elsie Nelson of Hawarden February 27, 1907. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses organization.

Survivors are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Finch of Omaha and Mrs. Glenn Rounds of Hawarden; one brother, Charles Carlson of Eugene, Ore.; two sisters in Sweden; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Barnard Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Bermeister of Sioux City officiating. Miss Mary Willard of Sioux City was the soloist and she was accompanied by Mrs. P. W. Peters. Pall bearers were Wilbur Cain, Pete Weyer, Bernard Weyer, Will Kelly, Oscar Longinaker and Lester Janssen. Burial was in Grace Hill cemetery.
