DEATH OF MRS. CARLSON
Passes Away Sunday After Many Years of Painful Affliction
[portions of the first paragraph are faded out and illegible; I guessed at some of the words]Mrs. Peter C. Carlson died Sunday evening [May 30] [at her] home in the south part [of] Hawarden, after an illness [of several?] years from rheumat[ism?] [plus another illegible word]. She had been a [great sufferer?] for many years [and for?] the past three or four [illegible word] had been bedridden the great[er?] [part of] the time. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Baptist church, Rev. John Erb[?] preaching the funeral sermon. Interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.
Susanna Gustafson was born in Sweden Nov. 30, 1862. She came to America in 1882 and made her home with relatives at Big Springs. She was united in marriage to Peter C. Carlson Feb. 5th, 1888. They made their home in Calliope for a number of years. From there they went to Marathon and Linn Grove and later resided in Sioux City for a time. They returned to Hawarden about five years ago and have since made their home here.
Besides her husband she leaves one son, Arthur Carlson, and an adopted son, Fred Carlson. In her death the husband loses a helpful and affectionate wife and the sons a loving and indulgent mother. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved ones in their hour of sorrow.
