MRS. NELLIE GANDY DIES AT AGE OF 82 IN HOSPITAL HERE

Mrs. Nellie Gandy, 82, who had been a patient at the Hawarden hospital for almost two years, died last Thursday [June 22].

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in Ireton with Rev. W. N. Baker officiating. A quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Eilts, Mrs. George Rose and Lloyd Simons, accompanied by Mrs. A. W. Bartlett, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Burial was at Ireton. Pall bearers were A. W. Bartlett, George Rose, L. M. Black, Hans Swanson, Elmer Vander Hamm and Frank Bowden.

Nellie G. Gamel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gamel, was born July 6, 1867, at Rio, Knox county, Ill. At an early age she moved to Tama county where she received her education. She was married to Willon [i.e., William] L. Gandy March 25, 1886. They came to Ireton in 1903 after they had bought a farm here. In 1917, when they retired, they moved into the town of Ireton. Mr. Gandy preceded her in death July 29, 1930.

She was a member of the Methodist church, the Women's Society of Christian Service and the American Legion Auxiliary in Ireton.

Survivors are a son, Ernest Eugene of Sioux City; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A daughter died in infancy.

Out of town people who came for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gandy, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gandy, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gandy, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gandy, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Buck, Wesley Gamel, Mrs. Dorothy Lubitz and Mrs. Myrtle Sabin, all of Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Grau, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Grau, Mrs. Ethel Hart, Mrs. W. R. Winders and Mrs. Kate Fish of Brunsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Harms.
