W. L. GANDY PASSED AWAY LAST TUESDAY

Wm. L. Gandy, for many years a highly respected citizen of this community, passed away at the Sacred Heart hospital in LeMars last Tuesday morning at about 1 o'clock. Mr. Gandy had been in ill health for many months and efforts to find relief proved futile. Last Sunday it was deemed imperative to take him to the hospital for an operation, but it was found that he was in too weakened a condition to withstand the ordeal and he died while efforts were being made to increase his strength.

William Lincoln Gandy, son of Elias and Lydia Gandy, was born at Cortland, Illinois, Feb. 6, 1864, and died July 29, 1930, aged 66 years, 5 months and 23 days.

In the fall of 1866 he moved with his parents to Montour, Iowa. He grew to young manhood in this vicinity of Tama county, and was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Gamel on March 25, 1886. To this union two children were born, a daughter, Flora Mae, who died in infancy and Earnest Eugene, who resides on the home farm in Eagle township.

On February 27, 1904, he moved to Sioux County locating on the farm northwest of Ireton which he had purchased the year before and which has since been in his possession. Mr. and Mrs. Gandy retired from farm life in the year 1917 turning the management of the farm over to their son. They located in Ireton on one of the town's finest homes where they since resided.

The deceased leaves to mourn his going, his widow, son and wife, three grandchildren, three brothers, Arthur Gandy of Maple Park, Ill., Lester Gandy of Toledo, Ohio, Geo. Gandy of Blunt, S.D., and four sisters, Mrs. Laura Anderson of Brookings, S.D., Mrs. Lottie Henrie of Maple Park, Ill., Mrs. Mae Vreeland of Montour, Iowa, and Mrs. Edith Grau of Ireton, Iowa, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Another sister, Mrs. Celia Grau, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held from the home this Thursday afternoon in charge of Rev. F. L. Kruwell, pastor of the M. E. church. Six nephews of the deceased acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Relatives and friends from a distance who were here for the funeral were: George Gandy, Blunt, S.D.; L. L. Anderson, Brookings, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Grau, Sioux City; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Grau, LeMars; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Grau, Leeds; Wesley Gamel, Sioux City; Mrs. Lillian Harms and children, Brunsville; Mrs. Paul Grau and children, Rock Valley; Mr. and Mrs. W. IRETON AND VICINITY
Passed Away in Hospital in LeMars

The community was shocked when word came of the passing by death of W. L. Gandy Tuesday at a hospital in LeMars to which place he was taken Sunday. Although his many friends knew he was seriously ill yet his strong constitution and will power kept him up and he was on the streets of Ireton, greeting and jollying his friends only a few days before his death. He had been suffering for some time with a complication of troubles which gradually sapped his strength and the end came to relieve his great suffering. Mr. Gandy was always busy. For years he was employed at the Houlton Motor Co. and other places. He simply could not be idle. He had and held many friends. His honesty, integrity and character were above reproach. He will be missed by those who had been in daily contact with him as well as by his scores of friends and relatives.
