SANDQUIST, JOHANSON, NYLUND

Funeral services for Oscar Gustva Sandquist,84,who died Thursday at the Mapes Nursing home where he had been a patient since 1962 were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Big Spring Baptist church. Rev. Henry B Nelson officiated with burial in the church cemeterey under the direction of the Nilson Funeral home. Military rites were conducted by V.F.W. Post 6149 of Alceaster.

Mr. Sandquist was born September 29, 1881 to Franz Gustaf Sandquist and Olivia Johnanson Sandquist at Lidkoping, Sweden. He was baptized and confirmed member of the State Church of Sweden.

In his early childhood he was orphaned and made his home with relatives . He attended a military academy and then served his time of military services as a youth in Sweden. He came to the United States about the turn of the century and became a naturalized citizen in 1915 He enlisted in the United State Army November 1, 1917 and was sent overseas June 6, 1918 where he served in the quarter master corp and upon returning to the United State was discharged July 22, 1919.

Mr. Sandquist spent some time in the Big Springs vicinity working in the Joel Nelson store at Big Springs and on various farms in the locality. He later made his home in Chicago for a number of years and worked for Western Electric. From April 5, 1934 to July 15,1942 he was a clerk in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Illinois. He then resided at the Veterans Administration Center at Wood, Wisc., where he was a domiecilary officer until July 1955. He later lived in Hot Springs,SD., and Sioux City until his health failed and he came to live at the Mapes Nursing home in Hawarden in May 1962.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. He is survied by a cousin, Mrs. Anna Ericson in Lidkoping, Sweden, a cousin in Sydney, Austrialia and other relatives in this area, desendants of Mrs. Andrew Nylund
