Youth Killed in Truck Accident

William H.Vanderham,21, who resided in Hawarden as a child, was fatally injured Friday when the Omar Bakery Co. truck he was driving careened into a ditch and overturned on a gravel road eight miles south and two and a half east of Moville, Iowa.

Death was due to suffocation, according to Dr. Thomas L. Coriden, county coroner, who said Vanderham apparently was thrown from the vehicle and pinned beneath it when it overturned.

Vanderham had been employed by the bakery concern about a week. The body was found by a passerby about 8:30 a.m. believed to be about 15 minutes after the accident.

He was born June 5,1939 at Hawarden , living here as a child and later moving with his family to Hinton, Iowa. He resided in Sioux City the past 12 years.

Survivors include the widow, Mary. A son David Bret; his parents Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vanderham of Soiux City; three brothers George, Francis and James all of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs.Phyllis Mote of Souix City and Mrs.Mary McCleery of Quanico, VA. and the grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vanderham of Hawarden.

Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Monday at the Larkin Funeral home with burial at Sioux City. Present for the services were all members of the Roy Vanderham family and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Hendrick, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Edmunds and Mrs.Henry Vanderham, all of Hawarden as well as a large number of relatives and friends.
