Erlyn E. Cain, 59, of rural Hawarden, IA, died suddenly on Sunday, March 10, 1991 at the Hawarden Community Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, the Reverend Loren Vogler officiating, with burial in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Wednesday, with a prayer service at 8:00 p.m. at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.

Mr. Cain was born on March 2, 1932 at Ireton, IA. He served in the Korean conflict. On June 21, 1956, he married Shirley Ness at Ireton. He was employed by Dimmick Construction and Carsten Freight Lines, later farmed in Union County, SD, and was an auctioneer. He also raised quarter horses.

Mr. Cain was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served for several years on the Greater Scott school board, and was a former member of the Hawarden Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; four daughters, Sondra (Mrs. Steve) Halstead of Aguanga, CA, Susan (Mrs. Rod) Ten Napel of Ireton, Sharon (Mrs. Pete) Wood of Columbia, TN, and Stacia Cain of Temecula, CA; his mother, Hilda Jones of Hawarden; a brother, Kenneth, and his wife, Barbara, of Sioux City; two sisters and their husbands, Shirley and Robert Hillrichs of Akron, IA, and Ardis and Dallas Huebner of Hawarden; and 10 grandchildren, Justin, Jeremiah, Jayce, Jaylene, and Jesse Halstead, Sara, Sarina, Ryan and Samantha Ten Napel, and Michael Wood.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Cain.
