Funeral services for Maurice E.(Morrie) Balcom,89,longtime Hawarden resident who died Monday at the hospital here, will be held at 2 o'clock this afternoon (Thursday) at the Barnard-Dow Funeral home. Rev. Herbert Young of the Assoiated church will officiate with burial at Grace Hill cemetery.

Mr. Balcom had been a patient at the Hawarden hospital five years, almost to the day.

He was born December 30, 1876 in Union county, South Dakota, a son of Mr. and Mrs.Waldon Balcom. He lived in this area his entire life. For over 30 years he was associated with the Truesdell Oil. Mr. Balcom was a member of the Associated church and a 50 year member of the Masonic lodge. He never married.

Survivors include three nephews, Curtis, Wallace and "Bud" Balcom, all of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by a brother beside his parents.
