Funeral services for Phillip E.Strong,63, former Hawarden resident who died Saturday in Los Angeles, were held at 10 O'clock Tuesday morning in St. Mary's Catholic church here. Fr. William Carel officiated with burial in St. Mary's cemetery. the rosary was recited at 8 o'clock Monday evening at the Barnard-Dow Funeral home.

Mr. Strong was born in Hawarden on May25, 1902, a son of Stephen and Elizabeth Burke Strong. He was graduated from Hawarden high school in 1919. He attended State College of Iowa at Ames from where he was graduated in College of engineers. Mr Strong worked for the state highway commission in California until his retirement. He never married.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Basil (Julia) Mill of Ottumwa,Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.
