A.H.(Tony) Van Zee age 88, of Hospers died Wednesday evening Jan 15, at the Sheldon hospital following a long illness. Services were held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the First Reformed Church, Hospers. Pastor Carl Dejong officiated. Burial was in Hospers Cemetery under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral home, Orange City.

Mr. Van Zee was born April 14,1897, the son of Henry and Artie(Ver Ploeg) Van Zee. at Middleburg. He married Gertrude Ver Hoeven Feb 19, 1920 at Middleburg. The couple farmed and moved into Hospers 33 years ago where he was active in auctioneering until retiring in 1968. The couple moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon in 1981 and Tony spent the last year in the Sheldon Hospitial Nursing Wing. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Hospers.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; three daughters Mrs.Artie Grotenhuis and Mrs. Peter (LaVonne) Hofmeyer both of Hospers and Mrs. Cliff (Eleanor) Wolfswinkel of Paradise Valley, Ariz; a son Henry J of Artesia, Calif.;12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. John Hoffs of Hospers. He is preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren.
