Mrs.Mable De Haan,77,of Orange City died Thursday at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Services were held Saturday at the First Reformed Church. Rev. Cecil Martens, Rev.Frank Snuttjer and Tom Hydeen officiated. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery under direction of the Van Gelder Funeral home, Orange City.
Florence Mabel was born to John A. and Annie (Visscher) Ver Steeg, on Aug 17, 1908. She taught rural school for a number of years and then a bookkeeper for many years.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Orange City. She was active in community affairs and her church. She taught Sunday School for more than 50 years, and taught catechism for several years. She was a member of RCW and Lydia Circle and JAC Club. She served the Siouxlland Sunday School board as treasurer for 45 years and was a member of the hospital auxiliary, Northwestern College auxiliary and American Legion auxiliary.
She married Jake De Haan July 6, 1951. He passed away March 28, 1959
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Clarence, Lester, Laurence, Rev. Benjamin and Marion; a step-son Alwin De Haan and a step-grandchild Billy De Haan.
Survivors are three sisters, Carrie, Mrs. W. Boone, of Sioux Center; Henrietta, Mrs. Gerrit Wesselink of Sibley; Nelvina, Mrs, Lyle Thomas, of Parchment, Mich; and five brothers, Jake of Sibley, Rev. Bert of Sioux Center Nursing Wing; Wilbur of Orange City, Harold of Brighton, Minn., and Clarence of Evanston, Ill; a step-daughter, Marlyns Gerritsen of Spencer; a step daughter-in-law Phyllis De Haan of Holland Mich. five step-grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren plus a host of relatives and friends.
