Floyd M. Templeton, 78, of Alton passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
Floyd Monroe was born Dec. 29, 1907 at Ida Grove, the son of William Jasper Templeton and Daisy Chapman Templeton. He farmed for a short time and then joined the Union Pacific Railroad, becoming a main-line engineer. He made his home in Cheyenne, Wyo., where he married Virginia Mae Cambier on Oct. 26, 1950. In 1973 they retired to Alton where Floyd did some farming. He was also employed by the Vogel Paint and Wax Company in Orange City.
Mr. Templeton was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Alton, a lifetime member of the United Transportation Union (formerly the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Engineers), a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, a lifetime member of Old Timers Black Hills Lodge No. 1, and a member of several other social organizations.
Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Mrs. Henry (Maybel) Johnston of Onawa; Mrs. Kenneth (Opal) Oxley of Dayton, Ohio; and Mrs. Hugh (Rhea) Calderwood of Traer; one brother, Lewis W. "Bill" Templeton of Whiting; and eight nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Forrest G. Templeton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 8 at the United Presbyterian Church of Alton. The Rev. Carol B. Gailey, Rev. Robert Vander Schaaf and Rev. Ray Tilstra officiated. Interment followed at Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton, under the direction of the Van Etten-Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
