Was Past 78 Years of Age and a Long Time Resident of Hawardon. Leaves Five Children
J. F. Bryson, long time resident of this community, passed away at Orange City early Monday morning. He had been a sufferer from heart trouble the past two or three years during which time his general health gradually declined. Last Thursday evening he suffered an acute heart attack and his sons were summoned from here to his bedside, but he raillied again and was able to be up and on Sunday partook of a hearty meal. He suffered another heart attack Sunday evening and passed away early Monday morning.
Funeral services were held at the Ross Funeral Home at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Robt. H. Forrester, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge and interment was made in Grace Hill cemetery.
John Fielding Bryson was born in Linn county, Iowa, June 10, 1855, and died Oct. 30, 1933, at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 20 days. He was united in marriage with Mary A. King at Marion, Iowa, April 10, 1878, and she preceded him in death on August 7, 1929. Seven children were born to this union, five of whom still survive. They are Mrs. L. W. Tucker, Beaver Dam, Wis.; Mrs. J. F. Schuster, Fig Garden, Calif.; Joe and Frank Bryson of Hawarden, and William Bryson of Brooklyn, N. Y. One son, John Bryson, died in 1915, while his twin sister died in infancy. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emma Knight of Urbana, Iowa, and Mrs. Julia Kisling of Center Point, Iowa, besides 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mr. Bryson and family came to Hawarden on Jan. 1, 1884, and two or three years later settled on some railroad land four miles south of Chatsworth, to which they later secured homestead rights. Ahout thirty years ago they left the farm and since that time Mr. Bryson has made his home in Hawarden except for the past eighteen months which he has spent at Orange City.
Mr. Bryson was always a hard worker, reliable and honorable, loyal to his family, and was highly esteemed by his neighbors and friends. Sincere sympathy is extended to his children in their bereavement.
