Elsie J. Bruyn, 74, of Hospers died Tuesday, August 16, at her home in Hospers.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 19,1994 at First Presbyterian Church in Hospers with the Rev. Brian Janssen officiating. Burial was in the Hospers Cemetery.
The former Elsie Mesman was born March 5, 1920, in Edgerton, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Henrietta (Westra) Mesman. She graduated from Edgerton High School. She married Danny Bruyn May 25, 1939, in Chandler, Minnesota. The couple moved to Hospers in 1946, where he operated an appliance store and she served as clerk and bookkeeper.
She was actively involved in the women’s organizations of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband; four daughters and their husbands, Marilyn and Lou Louwerse of Cedar Rapids, Brenda and Fred Blom of Missouri Valley and Diane and Peter L. Van Kley and Lori and Harve Keunen, all of Alton; a son Robert Bruyn and his wife, Charlotte, of Kansas City, Missouri; four sisters, Hermina Gunderson Rasmussen of Scandia, Minnesota, Josephine Vander Burg of Chandler, Wilma Scholten of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Elda Beukelman of Leota, Minnesota; two brothers, Don Mesman and Harlin Mesman, both of Platte, South Dakota; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
