Boy Dies of Burns
Harry Brunsting, 13 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brunsting of Washington township died of injuries, at the Hawarden hospital Saturday evening, at 8:00 P. M. The lad fell into a pile of burning cornstalks Tuesday, March 17, at his fathers farm when he and his brother Frederick were engaged in clearing a field in preparation for plowing. The older boy was raking the stalks and Harry was buring the piles. In some inexplainable manner Harry fell into the buring pile and his clothes caught fire. He proceeded at once to run and his entire body was in flames before he was noticed by the older boy who came at once to his rescue. His body was badly burned, over half of his skin was missing, and many deep flesh burns. From the first physicians held out no hope, but everything was done to obiviate the lads sufferings At times the lad was conscious and was able to tell something about the accident. Harry was a student at Washington township rural school, beloved by teacher and pupils alike, he was a good student and won many friends by his bright and cheerful disposition. A pall of gloom has been extended by the loss of this fine young boy. He is survived by his parents; his grandparents who reside at Orange City, four brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Christian Reformed Church at Hawarden, Iowa, with Rev. G. Rozendahl in charge.
