Obituary: Inwood, IA:
Gerrit Van Veldhuizen, 71, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Funeral Service 2 pm Monday at First Reformed Church, Inwood. Burial at Richland Cemetery. Pastor Rob Horstman officiating. Visitation Sunday with family present 2-4 pm at First Reformed Church. Porter Funeral Home is assisting the family. Gerrit Van Veldhuizen was born June 16, 1939 near the South Dakota border at Klondike, Iowa. He attended Centenial #5 country school, the building now at Lake Pahoja. Gerrit married Irene Bloemendaal on June 30, 1961 at the Van Veldhuizen family farm. Together they lived NW of Inwood where Gerrit farmed until working at Grand Lab Research Farm and custom feeding hogs. Gerrit had a great love of the outdoors, teaching his children and grandchildren how to trap, fish, and hunt. Gerrit enjoyed taking pictures of the wildlife and scenery especially after his health started to fail. The "Bushwhacker" always had a joke and the time for conversation and will be truly missed by all who knew him.He is survived by his wife for 49 years, Irene; his children: Sharon (Jerry) Van De Stroet of Fairview, SD and their children: Cody and Shana; Brian (Nancy) Van Veldhuizen of Inwood, IA and their children: Shane and Alec Van Veldhuizen and Daniel and Katie Gagnon; Diane (Todd) Elbers of Luverne, MN and their children: Joshua, Jaidyn and Jesse; Jodi Moore of Inwood. IA and her children: Mackenzie, Austin and Brittany; Gary (Deb) Van Veldhuizen of Larchwood, IA and their children: Karlee and Kane; his siblings: Gloria (Albert) Van Beek of Inwood, IA, Arlene (Junior) Van Beek of Dalhart, TX, Doris (Keith) Boer of Rock Valley, IA, Don "Festus" (Gwen) Van Veldhuizen of Larchwood, IA.He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda; son-in-law, Jay Moore; his parents, Pete and Henrietta.
