Glenn O De Haan August 29, 1926 - October 19, 2010
Mr. Glenn De Haan, age 84, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital. There will be a funeral service on Friday, October 22, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Timothy Breen and the Rev. David Ter Beest will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Thursday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Glenn Orlin was born on August 29, 1926, in rural Alton, the son of Henry G. and Margaret (Plender) De Haan. He was raised in the Alton and Orange City areas and attended a country school by Alton. At the end of World War II, he served in the United States Army. On January 31, 1950, he married Nelvina Joyce Fedders at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. They made their home in Boyden, Alton, and Orange City, until 1953, when they began farming by Carnes. In 1981, they moved into Orange City. Glenn thoroughly enjoyed farming, and he and Nelvina wintered in Texas for fifteen years. He was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon on the consistory. He also served on the board of directors of the Farmers Cooperative in Alton. He was active in 4-H and belonged to the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post in Orange City. Survivors include his wife of more than sixty years; four children and their spouses, Harlan and Phyllis De Haan, of Orange City; Linda and Gene Gaumnitz, of Le Mars; Nora and Marc Van Peursem, of Orange City; and Evan and Pam De Haan, of Alton; ten grandchildren, Heather, and her husband, Chad Walth; Heidi, and her husband, Billy Burzlaff; Penny, and her husband, Chris Rott; Bruce De Haan, and his wife, Alyssa; Tiffany, and her husband, Jarrod Kayser; Nichole, and her husband, Keith Chada; Sara Van Peursem; Jessica, and her husband, Jason Williams; Christopher De Haan, and his wife, Alisha; and Anthony De Haan, and his fiancé, Tabatha Toering; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Lee and Leora De Haan and Rog and Dianne De Haan, all of Orange City; and Nelvina's three brothers and two sisters and their spouses, George and Dorothy Fedders, Jeanette and Ernest Wielenga, Harriet and Glenn Hubenette, Mike and Audrey Fedders, and Bernie and Irma Fedders. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Nicholas Gene Gaumnitz and Quinn A. De Haan; a sister-in-law, Ardean De Haan; a brother-in-law, Stan Folkema; and Nelvina's parents, Ben and Lucy Fedders. Source: Oolman Funeral Home obit
