Christina De Haan September 2, 1917 - October 15, 2010
Mrs. Christina De Haan, age 93, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility. There will be a funeral service on Monday, October 18, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. Mr. Tom Hydeen will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 2:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. Christina was born on September 2, 1917, at Sioux Center, the daughter of Henry T. and Hattie (Vander Kooi) De Weerd. On June 2, 1945, she married Marion Frank De Haan in Newkirk. They farmed east of Orange City until 1977, when they retired into Orange City. Marion passed away on February 21, 1988, in Rochester, Minnesota. In 2000, Mrs. De Haan moved to the Pioneer Memorial Home in Orange City. In June of 2008, she transferred to the Long Term Care Facility. She was a member of the First Reformed Church. Chrissy was primarily a homemaker, but enjoyed working at the Dutch Bakery in Orange City after moving to town Survivors include her two sons, Gary De Haan, of Sioux City; and Robert "Bob" De Haan, and his wife, Sue, of Orange City; and three granddaughters, Alissa Wallace, and her husband, Colin, of Broomfield, Colorado; Nicolette Kelley, and her husband, Nathaniel, of Aurora, Colorado; and Elayna De Haan, of Orange City. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Alyce Hulstein, Sue Vrieze, and another Christina, in infancy; and her two brothers, Tony and Fred De Weerd.
