RUTH GANT

Ruth Gant, 97, of Hawarden died Thursday, January 4, at Hillcrest Care Center in Hawarden. Services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Church in Hawarden with the Rev. LeRoy Seuntjens officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Gant was born December 18, 1903, in Sioux City, the daughter of David and Wilhelmina (Nakis) Kinleyside. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1921. She was employed with the YMCA while attending the National Business Training School. She was then employed as a stenographer and cashier at Metro Life. She married Tom Gant of Westfield on January 16, 1926. The couple moved to Hawarden in 1929 and operated a meat market, which later became a cafe. After the cafe closed, she was employed with Piggly Wiggly, Harker Drug and Central Natural Gas. She was later employed with the City of Hawarden.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church amd Women's Guild.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Gwen Gant of Concord, California; four grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Dick; four sisters; and a brother.
