RITES HELD MONDAY FOR R. DEGROOT
Dies Thursday at Age of 94

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed church here at 1:30 p.m. Monday for Reurt De Groot, 94, one of Sioux Center's oldest residents, who passed away at the Sioux Center Community hospital Thursday [June 13].

Services were conducted by the Rev. B. J. Haan, assisted by Rev. C. G. Ter Maat. Burial was made in the Sioux Center cemetery under the direction of Vander Ploeg's Funeral home.

Mr. De Groot was born in The Netherlands, July 16, 1868, and grew to young manhood there. At the age of 20, in 1888, he immigrated to America and settled in Sioux County.

He was married to Petje Katze in 1892. Fifteen children were born to this union, seven of whom survive him. Mrs. De Groot passed away here September 8, 1943.

Survivors include two sons, John and Cornelius (Casey) of Sioux Center; five daughters, Elsie (Mrs. John Vander Burg), Tillie (Mrs. Peter Veneklasen) of Watertown, S.D., Gertrude (Mrs. Peter Balkema) of Orange City, Pearl (Mrs. Wilton Brower) of Denver, Jessie (Mrs. Clarence Bjork) of California. Six children preceded him in death, Jennie (Mrs. Case Schipper) and Dick, and six children who died in infancy.

He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Lena Mollinar, of Rock Rapids and a brother and sister in The Netherlands. Survivors also include 31 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.

Pall bearers were Cornelius De Groot, John De Groot, Peter De Groot, Lane Bruinsma, Sam Bruinsma, Renold Bruinsma.

For the past 17 years Mr. De Groot made his home with his son, Cornelius (Casey) and family.
