HENRY VAN GINKEL

Henry Van Ginkel, 83, of Rock Valley, died Tuesday, March 14, 1989 in Valley Manor Nursing Home.

He was born July 3, 1905, in Crookston, Minn. He married Anna Groeneweg on Feb. 7, 1930, in Sioux Center, Iowa. The couple lived north of Inwood, Iowa, where he worked for a local farmer. They moved to Rock Valley in 1932 and he owned and operated a gas station. He later worked as a livestock trucker for several years and was manager of the Rock Valley landfill.

He was involved in the Foster Grandparent Program at Hope Haven School for the Handicapped for 14 years. He was also a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley.

Survivors include his wife; two sons: Everett and Harold, both of Rock Valley; three daughters: Gertrude Wallenburg, of Red Bluff, Calif.; Mrs. Richard (Lavina) Vanden Brink, of Sioux Center; and Mrs. Gerrit (Bernice) Hup, of Corsica; 34 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward, of Ontario, Calif.; and four sisters: Mrs. James (Marie) Koedam and Kate Hoogendoorn, both of Rock Valley; Gertrude Koedam, of Sioux Center; and Mrs. John (Jennie) De Wit, of Sioux Falls.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 17 in the Netherlands Reformed Church in Rock Valley with burial in Valley View Cemetery. Visitation was held in the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.
