EDWARD R. VERMEER

Edward R. Vermeer, 92, of Sioux Center died Wednesday, January 3, at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. Services were at 10:30 am. Monday at First Reformed Church with the Rev. Robert Johnson and the Rev. Arnold Punt officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Vermeer was born to Richard and Kate (Roos) Vermeer on July 3, 1908, in Orange City. He married Gertrude Oordt on December 23, 1930. They farmed for many years near Sioux Center. After retirement, he worked for H & R Block doing income tax preparation. He was a real estate salesman and broker.

He was a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center where he served as a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of Farm Bureau, Sheldon Production Credit Association and rural school board. He was an avid reader.

Survivors include three sons, Richard and Lois of Loveland, Colorado, Vernon and Terry of Ames, and Ethan and Anna Beth of Orange City; two daughters, Carolyn Rohlf of Humboldt and Glenda Seely of Loveland, Colorado; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Estella and Floyd Achterhof of Rock Rapids; and one sister-in-law, Charlotte Vermeer of Sioux Center. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Ellen and Geneva; and one brother, Andrew.

A similar obituary appeared in an unidentified local newspaper punlished prior to the funeral. It includes the information that visitation will be noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 2:30 to 4 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. It gives his birth place as Alton, Iowa.
