Mrs. Jennie Beernink Died At Home in Sioux Center

Mrs. Jennie Beernink passed away at her home in Sioux Center, Iowa, on Wednesday evening, May 16, 1945, at the age of 67 years. She had been ailing for some time due to hardening of the arteries, but became seriously ill on Saturday.

Left to mourn her departure are the six children: Helen (Mrs. Gerrit W. Hulstein), Alice, Andrew, Dorothy, Harold and Gilmore. Also six grandsons and three sisters--Mrs. Mary Bos of Hull, Mrs. Richard Vermeer and Miss Minnie Roos of Denver, Colorado, and two brothers--Neal Roos of Littleton, Colorado and John Roos of Denver, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away on July 19, 1940 and she was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Jake and Arthur and a sister Winnie who all died within a period of two weeks during the diphtheria epidemic in the year of 1895.

Mrs. Beernink, nee Jennie Roos, was born on July 2, 1877 at Ackley, Iowa. On June 16, 1897 she was united in marriage to Mr. John Beernink and they lived on a farm southwest of Sioux Center for 40 years. In the year of 1937 they retired and moved into town. They also celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 1937. She was a member of the First Reformed Church and took an active part in all church and community activities.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, May 21, 1945, at one o'clock at the home and at 1:30 at the First Reformed Church at Sioux Center with Rev. Henry Vande Brake of Orange City officiating. Burial took place in the family plot at the local cemetery and acting as pall bearers were Henry De Boer, Gerrit De Weerd, William Koops, Bert Terpstra, John Addink and Case Vos.

Mrs. Jennie Beernink passed away at her home last Wednesday evening at 9:30 at the age of 67 years. She had been ailing for some time but became seriously ill on Saturday. Left to mourn her departure are six children, Mrs. Gerrit W. Hulstein, Sioux Center, Alice, Sioux City, Andrew, LeMars, Harold of Sioux Center, Dorothy of Denver, and Gilmore of Sioux Center. [Grandchildren, husband, and siblings, same as above]

Mrs. Beernink was born at Akley, Iowa where she lived for eight years and then moved to a farm west of Orange City. [Marriage, farm, and retirement same as above] Mrs. Beernink at the age of 17 joined the First Reformed Church where she was an acive member for over 50 years in both church and community affairs.
