JOHN BEERNINK PASSES ON

John Beernink, who has been ill for some months, passed away quietly at his home last Friday evening, July 19. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 22 at one o'clock from the home and at one-thirty o'clock from the First Reformed Church. Rev. L. A. Brunsting officiated. The pallbearers were Mr. John Addink, Mr. Herman Addink, Mr. William Koops, Mr. Henry De Boer, Mr. Gerrit De Weerd, and Mr. Bert Terpstra.

John Beernink, sixty-nine years, an Iowa Pioneer, was born in Alto, Wis. in the year of 1871. He came to Iowa in 1872 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Beernink, traveling by rail to LeMars and homesteaded 18 miles north where they lived in a sod house for some time. On June 16, 1897, he was united in marriage to Jennie Roos near Orange City. To this union six children were born, namely Mrs. Gerrit Hulstein, Alice, Andrew, Harold, Dorothy, and Gilmore. He made confession of his faith in the First Ref. Church of Sioux Center of which he remained a member until the day of his death. They lived on a farm four and one-half miles southwest of Sioux Center. They lived there for forty years moving to Sioux Center three years ago.

He leaves to mourn his wife, six children, four grandchildren, and three brothers, Simon, Henry and Reuben, three sisters, Mrs. Ella De Mots, Mrs. Gerrit Ellerbroek, and Mrs. George Siemens. His parents and one brother preceded him in death.

Other news notes show him spending the month of January in a hospital, apparently at Hull (Sioux County Index, Hull, Jan. 5, 1940; Sioux Center News, Feb. 1, 1940); give his sister Ella De Mots' residence as Sioux Center (Alton Democrat, Jan. 19, 1940); state that he is in critical condition from a heart ailment (Sioux Center News, June 27, 1940); and identify Mrs. Beernink as the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Roos, former residents of Hull, and a sister of Mrs. Mary Bos of Hull (Sioux County Index, July 26, 1940).
