FINAL SERVICES HELD YESTERDAY FOR MRS. BURKE

Mrs. Anna Burke, 66, of Hudson died Monday [Sept. 8] in the Hawarden hospital following a lingering illness. She had been in failing health about a year but three months ago submitted to a minor operation at the Hawarden hospital where the seriousness of her ailment was then discovered.

A daughter of Michael and Bridgett Clifford, she was born at Elk Point October 22, 1885. When a small child she came to Hawarden with her parents and lived on a farm northeast of here. Before her marriage she taught in the rural schools in Sioux county. Later she went to Sioux City to attend a business college and was employed as a bookkeeper in that city until her marriage.

In 1908 she was married to William Burke and all of her 44 years of married life were spent on the Burke farm near Hudson. Since the death of Mr. Burke in 1948 her son Jack has lived with her and operated the farm.

Survivors include three sons, Tom of Hawarden and Clifford and Jack of Hudson; two daughters, Mrs. Adrian Heitkamp and Mrs. Roger Morris of St. Charles, Ill.; eight grandchildren; one brother, George Clifford of Los Angeles, Calif.; and four sisters, Mrs. Nell Baker of Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Mayme Lantaff of Le Mars and Mrs. Evelyn Keehn and Miss Lillian Clifford of Los Angeles.

Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock this morning st St. Mary's church with Rev. Fr. R. Graf officiating. Rosary was said in the Burke home Wednesday evening. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral service.

Note the discrepancies in the day of the funeral between the headline (yesterday) and the text (this morning) of this obituary. The following week's news note (below) implies a Saturday funeral, although this was probably the day of just the requiem Mass.

FINAL RITES HELD FOR MRS. BURKE

High requiem mass was said at St. Mary's church at 10 o'clock Saturday morning for Mrs. Anna Burke, who died on Monday of last week in the Hawarden hospital after a long illness.

Rev. Fr. R. Graf was in charge of the service with burial in St. Mary's cemetery under the direction of the Barnard Funeral service.

Out of town relatives and friends who came for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Heitkamp and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Morris of St. Charles, Ill.; Mrs. A. H. Nolan of Madison, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dalton, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Dalton and Mrs. James Klauer of Akron; Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Lantaff, Miss Bernice Clifford and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Zimmerman of Le Mars; Bill Lantaff of Correctionville; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lantaff of Beresford; Mrs. George Clifford and Mr. and Mrs. Romaine Elrichson of Canton; Mrs. A. L. Sherholtz of Hartley; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burke and Clarice of Worthing, S.D.; and Mrs. Lee Gulberg of Sioux Falls.
